Our precious little Shmu!

We think he's already sporting a handsome face!

It's taken 4 days to post about our precious new arrival! Sorry for the delay. I'll be writing more about what has transpired over this last week whenever the next opportunity comes for me to do so. Many, many interruptions and sleepless nights but what a fun time for our family! Thank you for your prayers and for celebrating with us! God is so good.

We chose the name Kyle because we liked it, and Mindy had actually fallen in love with the name while she was in 4th grade. Ever since, she's wanted to name her son Kyle. Thankfully, Rudy liked it too! Dakota is loaded with meaning for us, but can be summed up in one word: legacy. We desire to begin a new legacy for this Martin family, much like Mindy's grandparents did, and Kyle will be the first to carry it on. Mindy's grandparents, who live in South Dakota, made a decision many years ago to live a life pleasing to the Lord and honor Him. Because of their commitment to Him throughout their lives, He has blessed them and their children and children's children. We desire the same for our family. Trips to South Dakota also represent visits with John Parker. "Papa John" would talk and pray with Mindy and pass back and forth a kernel of corn, representing her life, her future and her desire to be a godly woman. During these prayer times, Papa John would pray for the man Mindy would marry and would pray for her future family. The night before we married, Papa John presented that kernel of corn to Rudy and prayed for the two of us. To honor this man, Mindy's grandparents, and the legacy of Mindy's family in South Dakota, we name our son "Dakota." A simple word, rich with meaning for both of us. May God be with us as we strive to raise our son in His truth and grace.

  1. Oh, may we never stop claiming the promises God had given us for each new day and for the generations wich He tells us. Mindy and Rudy, it was a privilage to wittness the depth of dedication to each other and to your baby. Know you are strong links in this generation-legacy-chain. Thank you for my grandson and the peace of knowing what wonderful parents you are to him. I'm so proud of both of you. It was a challenge to keep the grateful, happy tears at bay while I performed my job up in the air today. But how fun it is to be the new bragging grandma to any and everyone who will listen or view photos of the cutest, most precious life on the planet. Little Shmu, my heart is so full of love and awe at the life and breath God had given you and gratitude for the health you have, and for your Mommy and Daddy who care and love you with great tenderness and gratefullness. Kyle Dakota Martin, You are a gift to all of us and to all mankind and as much as we know the love we have in our hearts for you it is incomprehensible to understand how your Heavenly Father who knit you together in your mother's womb, who created your handsomeness, assigned your specific talents, numbered the hairs on your head and breathed life into your healthy, perfect little body-how much more does he love you in ways too mysterious to ever humanly understand. You are one of a kind, created for His pleasure and for purposes yet to be discovered. May God richly bless you with great faith to know him intimately and bless you with a heart filled with joy and peace and strength to be all you were created to be. Welcome Grandson, the littlest love of my heart. I can't wait to come visit you again. Until then, I'll miss you but you'll be in my heart and in my mind and in my prayers every single day. May you have the happiest of childhoods. Loving you all, XOXO GG
