How do you survive 100+ degree temps and humidity with no air-conditioning? Well, we spent a lot of time in the pool, playing with our water hose and laying on the floor with ice packs stuck to our head! And why am I such a complainer? Usually we have some heat in our summers and usually we install our air-conditioning unit, so it isn't too big of a deal. However, this has been the coolest recorded summer ever! We were below our record lows almost every day and just when it turns to fall... BAM! Time for misery! Since it was so cool this whole summer, we didn't even need to put our air in. Granted, we live close to the beach so it is much cooler by us. But still, not once did we feel like we were hot and wished we'd had the air... until this week. Knowing that it would only last a few days it seemed silly to go through all the trouble of putting the thing in, but boy would it have been nice.
I was outside all day teaching P.E. while Ru was pouring water all over his head repeatedly on his way to class in his truck that also doesn't have air. So sad. Ru is always warm even on a cool day, so you can imagine how he's felt this week. Commutes were miserable. Windows down don't help either. Ever tried blasting your face with a hot hairdryer? Not really tolerable. Now let me tell you about the Shmu. I could hardly nurse him, we were both just dripping from having to be so close. And he'd wake up from his naps with beads of sweat all over his face and had wet, wet hair. Neither Ru or I felt like doing ANYTHING all week long and it took every effort to gather the motivation to perform even the most basic tasks! So glad we're headed for cooler temps (like in the high 80's!).
And it wouldn't be a proper blog post without pictures our little Shmu surviving the heat:
Do you see the imprint of his head and neck where he had just been laying? That's some serious sweat!
Water fountains!
K unwinds the big hose and drags it out to the blacktop to play. When I say, "Ok, bye bye water!" he tries to wind the hose back up and "helps" me clean up, and then waves good-bye while signing "water!"
And In-n-Out shakes!!

Then, after I finished typing all this, Kyle had his first rain and thunderstorm. Ok, there were 2 cracks of thunder, but it counts! ;) I took him outside and he loved it, signing water the whole time. Then, he realized Papa wasn't there and went back to get him, calling him to come down. Dad joined us for a walk along the street to watch the inefficient storm drains make their rivers. Kyle loved it and wanted to stay outside forever!
